6th 2/5/14

Essential Question: How do I find the area of polygons and triangles using real world diagrams and decomposing them into shapes?

Opening: Design your folder/build your folder

Work Session: Finish Area Task: comparing playgrounds

Vocabulary: area, decompose, polygon, base, height

Standard: Find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals,
 and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and
other shapes

Homework: find the area of a rectangle with: A=bh
1.   A= 15 b=?  h=3
2.   A=96 b=2  h=?
3.   A= 40 b=? h=8

Essential Question:How can comparing two box and whisker

 plots show differences between data sets?

Opening:  Design your folder/build your folder

Work Session: Mean Absolute Deviation

Standard:Use measures of center and measures of variability
 for numerical data from random samples to draw informal comparative
 inferences about two populations.

Vocabulary:box and whisker plot, upper quartile, lower quartile, median, mean absolute deviation, mean, median

Homework:Sketch a box and whisker plot for this data set
21, 45, 76, 23, 44, 19, 54

Essential Question: How can I measure rate of change?

Opening: Design your folder/build your folder

Work Session:Rate of Change and Slope

Standard:Graph proportional relationships, interpreting the unit
rate as the slope of the graph. Compare two different
proportional relationships represented in different ways.

Vocabulary:rate of change, slope, rise, run

Homework:
y = -x + 12
x= 9
