Essential Question: How do I find the area of polygons and triangles using real world diagrams and decomposing them into shapes?

Opening: Divide and conquer

Work Session: Area Task: comparing playgrounds

Vocabulary: area, decompose, polygon, base, height

Standard: Find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals,
 and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and
other shapes

Homework: find the area of a rectangle with: A=bh
1.   A= 26 b=?  h=2
2.   A=46 b=2  h=?
3.   A= 56 b=? h=8

Essential Question:How can comparing two box and whisker plots show differences between data sets?

Opening:  What does it show?

Work Session: Box and Whisker Task: bowling teams

Standard:Use measures of center and measures of variability
 for numerical data from random samples to draw informal comparative
 inferences about two populations.

Vocabulary:box and whisker plot, upper quartile, lower quartile, median

Homework:Sketch a box and whisker plot for this data set
12, 34, 56, 87, 23, 41, 48, 66

Essential Question: How can I measure distance and rate of change by tracing the route of a bicycle ride?
Opening: Rate of Change: what does it mean?

Work Session:Rate of Change Tasks: Bicycle route
Standard:Graph proportional relationships, interpreting the unit rate as the slope of the graph. Compare
 two different proportional relationships represented in different ways.

Vocabulary:rate of change, slope, rise, run

Homework:
y = -3x +9
x= -3
x=3
x=-4
x=4
